Quotables #74: Waxing Poetic
For those times that mere prose will not do, we find ourselves speaking in verse. All of the following snippets of dialogue feature characters that either quote the works of poets or read their own poems. Your job is to guess which movies they're from.

Man: We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman,
"O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring;
Of the endless trains of the faithless - of cities fill'd with the foolish;
What good amid these, O me, O life?
Answer: That you are here - that life exists, and identity;
That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse."
"That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse." What will your verse be?
Movie 1:
Woman:
"How happy is the blameless vestal's lot!
The world forgetting, by the world forgot
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind!
Each pray'r accepted, and each wish resign'd."
Movie 2:
Woman: I need your poetry now!
Man: Alright! "It's a little bit funny... this feeling inside / I'm not one of those who can easily hide." Is this okay? Is this what you want?
Woman: Oh, poetry. This is what I want: naughty words. Naughty!
Man: "I don't have much money, but if I did / I'd buy a big house where we both could live."
Woman: Oh! It's so bad!
Man: "If I were a sculptor, then again, no."
Woman: You devil.
Man: "Or a man who makes potions in a traveling show."
Woman: Don't! Don't! Don't! Don't stop!
Man: "I know it's not much."
Woman: Give me more! Yes!
Man: "It's the best I can do."
Woman: Naughty! Don't stop! Yes!
Movie 3:
Man: Don't stop fighting. We're going to save a lot more of this place. To celebrate, I have a poem I'd like to read.
Nobody sits like this rock sits.
You rock, rock.
The rock just sits and is.
You show us how to just sit here
And that's what we need.
Yeah, we did it.
Movie 4:
Man: I know you feel lost right now, but don't worry. "Nothing is ever lost, nor can be lost / The body sluggish, aged, cold - the embers left from earlier fires / Shall duly flame again."
Woman: Did you write that?
Man: No, that was Walt Whitman.
Woman: I think I knew him.
Man: I think you did.
